A tale of a woman
The peace I search
Of mind and soul
The peace of being alone
Born to be beaten
Crushed at the feet
Dropped out of school
And then sold away with relief
A burden of a daughter
A sister
And a wife
I learn
I live
I learn to live
And live to let others live too
My powers they say
Are of no use
Except of mane if any I produce
Give me a chance
Let me fight too
Let me be free
Free from the wisdoms
Stitched by thee
Some peace of mind
And peace of soul
My body my womb
I can console
I am not born to listen
Their yes or no
I am not bound to sit
When the heads nod and go
I shall not follow
What my mother has been
In laws too
Are not to be rhymed
I can find myself
Amongst the crowd of many
Let me fly too
With my own grown wings
- Saswati Barat

The poem started very poignantly of the injustices meted out to the womenfolk.
ReplyDeleteThe last stanza is of hope and the spirit & I wish every women should raise their vocals against any oppressions.
Perhaps they(married ones) r also to be blamed cos of their stupid 'pati parmeshwar' mindset.n they pass on this to their next generations.
It shows a very realistic underbelly of India that reminds us once again that India is still miles away from being actually called 'India Shining.' n it is a brutal whipping on this illusion of 'india shining' tht the 'intellectuals' go ga ga abt.
Very good of you to touch on ths social relevance.
